Finished a piece of work for my lgbt comic, Any Kind, featuring two of the main characters: Abby Townsend, who we all know as the story's lovestruck lesbian, and Wyatt Colvin, her closest cousin and best friend.
I thought of including a few key moments throughout their childhood to emphasize their close relationship. They've been together since they were babies, and played together all the time as children, though Wyatt was always surprised by how tough Abby could be. They were so close that when they reached middle school, Wyatt was the first person that Abby came out to, and was practically in tears when he told her she had nothing to be ashamed about. But for all of the good times they were together, they also had one another's back during the bad, such as the fatal day that Wyatt left home for good, and Abby and her family took him in.
Still a lot to be developed at this point, but I feel that it's essential for the process of the story, and to emphasize Wyatt's importance in the narrative and in his cousin's life throughout.
